Because events and décor both play huge roles at Shimmy Beach Club we asked our favourite Events & Décor company in Cape Town to tell us the top trends for 2015…

Winter may have slowed down Cape Town’s event industry, but it’s summer somewhere in the world, and we can’t wait for the upcoming season! Here are five of our favourite event trends to expect for 2015.
Straight off the runways of fashion labels like Christian Dior and Kate Spade, one of the hottest event trends right now is flower walls. Dramatic, indulgent, and simply gorgeous, flower walls create an incredible atmosphere. Kim Kardashian had three massive ones at her wedding, and like the Selfie Queen, guests will love taking pictures of themselves in front of a stylish floral backdrop – perfect for Instagram.
Kim went for an all-white rose backdrop on her Big Day, but we urge event planners to be creative with their blooms. Moss and succulents can create a beautiful contrast amidst traditional flowers, and colours and patterns are begging to be experimented with.
This event décor trend may sound ridiculous, but just wait until you see the pictures. Décor made from paper started to trend a couple years ago at weddings and parties, but have since grown to full-scale installations unlike anything you have ever seen. The makers of these concepts call themselves “paper engineers,” and they produce work that seems less DIY, and more edgy, could-be-in-an-art-gallery, amazing.
Less is More:
Monochrome colour schemes aren’t exactly new; weddings and diner en blancs often feature all-white décor, but we are seeing event designers do monochrome of other colours, and we love it! We don’t need a full spectrum of colours when we can have all-black, everything. Complementing the monochrome trend, the ever popular ombré has also made its way to event décor, allowing event designers to play with the different shades of a single colour.
Flower arrangements started back in Ancient Egypt (about 2500 BCE). We think it’s time for something different. Our favourite table designs this coming season feature non-conventional objects and shapes. But flowers don’t need to be abandoned completely! Objects like pineapples and antlers placed amidst floral arrangements transform décor into something extraordinary.
Antlers may come off a bit ‘woodsman’, and pineapples risk seeming too tropical, but a bit spray-paint and gold is all you need to create something elegant.
Leave space to make eyes with that special someone across the table. One of the biggest event trends this season is suspended décor. Designers are trading tall, intrusive table décor for bold and dramatic suspended bouquets, objects, and lighting. The result? An otherworldly display where beauty descends as if by magic.
The exciting thing about this trend is how they can be mixed and matched like in this suspended flower wall in monochrome white, made from dandelions.
