Ahead of their Summer Finale show this Sunday, 3 May at Shimmy, we sat down with Dominic Peters and David Poole, who make up SA’s famed duo Goldfish and this is what they had to say:

Shimmy: Wow, we can’t believe this incredible summer season has come to an end. Have you enjoyed your residency at Shimmy?
Goldfish: It’s been an amazing perfect run of sold out shows. What more could you ask for? It’s also just great to come to our home town and have that kind of reception as these days we get to spend less and less time here with all the touring.

Shimmy: Do you have a particular ‘stand out’ moment from those shows you’d like to share?
Goldfish: It’s hard to pick an exact moment, but having that massive cruise liner leaving the harbour as we started our set in December was definitely a keeper. We got such a fright when the captain pulled the horn! What IS that sound?? Then to look behind and see this massive ship lit up behind us…We had an audience all round. It was also great to host so many of our favourite DJs and producers from around the world. Guys like Wankelmut, Lexer, Bakermat, Prosper Rek as well as stellar sets each week by Dean Fuel, Shaun Duvet, Richard Marshall, Anthea Scholtz, Jet, Mike Play and of course X-Ray.

Shimmy: I’m sure this is something that all your fans would love to know – what is your routine before your you get on stage and perform. Any superstitions, or specials meals you like to have?
Goldfish: Nothing like that really. Maybe a little shot of tequila and one of Shimmy’s tasty pizzas. Plus Shimmy’s General Managers always make sure we are all sorted with anything we may need.

Shimmy: What is your favourite track to play to a full crowd?
Goldfish: Right now? Some of the new tracks we haven’t released yet. There is something special about watching a crowd react to a Goldfish song they are hearing for the first time.

Shimmy: Who do you think is an SA artist out there that is one to watch this year?
Goldfish: I’m sure we can expect more big things from Ryan Murgatroyd, he blew everyone away with some of his releases on Get Physical last year. Also Kyle Watson is making some seriously great dance music. Big future there.

Shimmy: Which international artist would you like to see play at Shimmy and why?
Goldfish: Well, we pretty much got our wish list this Summer and don’t want to give away next Summer’s guests just yet so you’ll have to wait and see..

Shimmy: If you had to create a Shimmy cocktail, what would it consist of, and what would it be called?
Goldfish: Fishbowl! With Tequila, obviously. Drink carefully. Or not.

Shimmy: We’ll definitely have to give that a try! What is your summer schedule looking like, in case any of us are in Europe and surrounds and wanting to catch a gig?
Too many shows all over the world to mention. We’ll be spending a lot more time on the festival circuit in the US this Northern Hemi Summer, but keep an eye out for us in Europe, UK and Ibiza too.

Shimmy: We’re excited to have you guys back in December for a third consecutive year of Submerged Sundays. Anything special your fans can look forward to?
Goldfish: Always. New tunes, great guest DJs and best party in Cape Town hands down. Just like this Summer, but even better.

Shimmy: Thanks for the time, we can’t wait to host you both for one last Summer Sendoff!
Goldfish: Thanks – See you Sunday!
