Our CEO, Nicky van der Walt talks Black Coffee with us
We caught up with our group, CEO Nicky van der Walt who has a personal connection with this #ShimmySummer’s Resident DJ, Black Coffee to ask him about what we can expect this season.
You recently traveled to Europe and saw Black Coffee perform live in Mykonos & Ibiza. Was this the first time you’d seen him perform live?
I travel to Mykonos & Ibiza every year. I’ve seen him perform numerous times locally and abroad. I saw him this season at Pacha in Ibiza, alongside Solomun. It was an exceptional set!
What does it feel like to watch a local South African (albeit highly acclaimed) DJ on the ultimate international stages?
Obviously a sense of pride being South African. It’s incredible to witness how people react to Black Coffee, he has a massive following and truly is an international super star.
What makes Shimmy Beach Club the perfect place/fit for Black Coffee to have his first ever residency?
Shimmy Beach Club is the continents’ premier beach club and venue and on par with the best clubs and beach clubs in the world. The residency is a logical fit between two of the biggest brands in South African entertainment.
And everyone will want to know what your favourite song of his is.
“We Dance Again”.
Anything else you’d like to add?
This is Black Coffee’s first South African residency, he is super excited and amped to make his shows very special and extraordinary. We met before he flew to NYC and we have a shared vision of what we want to create from stage/lighting/AV point of view…. Going to be world class!
Black Coffee will make his first appearance as a Shimmy Beach Club resident on Friday, 09 December 2016, and will be joined by a fresh line-up of local DJ’s.
