After his mind-blowingly successful residency at Hï Ibiza, multi-award-winning DJ and producer, Black Coffee, returns to Shimmy Beach Club this December for a second season, with 5 exclusive Friday night shows. With his latest gold rated EP aptly named “The Journey Continues”, Shimmy Beach Club is thrilled to continue their journey with the now world-renowned homegrown superstar and welcome him back to the iconic Shimmy stage.
Black Coffee’s residency will form part of Shimmy Beach Club’s annual Summer Calling campaign and is indeed a highlight on the calendar, with last year’s shows all sold out weeks in advance. The premier party venue balances the style of international party life and the laid-back atmosphere of Cape Town, making it a stylish venue to rival Ibiza’s beach club scenes. This year Black Coffee will be joined by a fresh line-up of local DJs on the decks, including Da Capo and Enoo Napo, contributing to what promises to be a big night out.
Recognised as the most prominent electronic music producer in Africa, 2017 has seen Durban born Nkosinathi Maphumulo, aka Black Coffee’s, international success and fame soared to even higher heights. In September this year he was awarded Best Deep House DJ at the 2017 DJ Awards, held in Ibiza, for the second year in a row. This is in addition to his 2015 Award for Best Breakthrough DJ that launched him to international acclaim and had him spinning his tribally infectious, vocal-laced beats everywhere from Coachella to Ultra Music Festival, ultimately earning him the prestigious spot of being the first ever resident at Hï, which is ranked in the top 5 of the International Nightlife Association’s World’s 100 Best Clubs 2017.
2017 has also seen Black Coffee breaking into more of a mainstream audience. In July, he announced that he was the latest addition to the Beats 1 radio station family, joining the likes of fellow music heavyweights, DJ Khaled, Drake and Pharrell Williams, while his collaboration with Drake made headlines worldwide, when he was sampled on the rapper’s 2017 “playlist” More Life.
Yet perhaps what makes Black Coffee a South African icon is not just his music, talent or fame, but his humble nature that stays intact through it all. When taking to social media to thank fans for the continued support after winning his latest award, he wrote “One more for the culture. Thank you for the votes, love and continued support.”
Black Coffee will be playing at Shimmy Beach Club on Friday 8th, 15th, 22nd, 29th December 2017 and Friday 5th January 2018. Don’t miss this opportunity, tickets are on sale now.
