Summer Tastes Better at Shimmy Beach Club

The breaking out of the summer sunshine signals Shimmy Beach Club’s season to shine, and the launch of their new Shimmy Summer Menu reaffirms this idyllic seaside restaurant and venue as not only a must-visit beach club for summer parties and sundowners, but a foodie destination.

Head Chef Lungile Ngwenya and Executive Chef Adrian Cook have put their heads together to bring you a decadent new menu that will have you coming back to Shimmy for more than just their famous summer parties this season.

“More is more” when it comes to the new selection of summer dishes, with addition of clever ingredients and flavour combinations that that elevate classic staples like burgers, pizzas and salads to new, fun and playful heights.

Seafood is the star of the starters, with Fresh Local Black Mussels in an Asian-style sauce, Grilled Prawns served with lemon and pea risotto and Fresh Oysters with a ginger soy dressing. Or treat yourself to their Crayfish Avocado Ritz, for a spectacular start to your dining experience.

Main course highlights include the ever-so-theatrical Surf and Turf Espetada – juicy pieces of rump and prawns grilled in garlic butter on a vertical skewer, served with chips – or choose the Seven Spiced Tuna version, served with vegetable stir fry and a chilli kick. Grilled Lamb Cutlets, Asian Pork Belly and the 300g New York Cut Rump will please the carnivores, whereas the perfectly purple Beetroot Gnocchi with beetroot hummus, sautéed spinach, mushrooms and walnuts is a delicious veggie option, where you are vegetarian or not.

Their burger menu takes centre stage, where classic combos such as the bacon, feta, avo ‘Moodie Burger’ are juxtaposed with creative concoctions such as the Benedict Burger. Kassler steak, poached egg and truffled hollandasie sauce take both the breakfast and the burger to a different realm. A warning – come hungry!

Pasta makes a comeback this season, with a mix-and-match style selection that highlights classic combinations for maximum enjoyment. Choose your pasta (linguini, gnocchi or penne) and then choose your sauce, with creamy Bacon Alfredo, Amatriciana, Aglio Olio Peperoncino or classic Napolitana sauces all on offer.

Dessert has never been #SoExtra, with the addition of their #SoExtra (and so Instagrammable) milkshakes. Choose from chocolate topped (more like towered) with mini brownies, honeycomb, flake, chocolate sprinkles and whipped cream, or go for strawberry with mini cupcakes, macaroons and sprinkles adorning these works of art – that don’t for one minute compromise on flavour! For something a little more demure (but equally delicious), the Miso-salted Caramel Apple Tart with black pepper anglaise, cinnamon crumble and vanilla ice cream will be hard to forget, as well as the Franken-pudding – Mini Lemon Meringue Doughnuts.

For poolside dining at its best, the newly relaunched Beach Menu has been created with a laid back Capetonian style of eating in mind. Choose from one of the dishes on offer or make a platter of your favourite finger foods, such as chili poppers, samoosas and spring rolls, that will keep you happy and nourished during a long day of poolside tanning, drinking and soaking up the summer sun.

The famous sushi and dim sum selection remains a firm favourite all year round, and diners can count on only the freshest, highest quality fish on their sushi platter. Shimmy’s wood-fired pizzas also go down a treat, with the option of a cauliflower pizza base for those living the Banting lifestyle, as well as vegan cheese for the dairy free guest. Pizza, sushi and dim sum are all available on both the Beach Menu and the regular dining menu.

And don’t forget the cocktails! Whether you like yours shaken stirred, blitzed or blended, Shimmy Beach Club’s new summer cocktail menu has something to quench your thirst. This season they go back to the classics – that are classic for a reason! A Berry Mojito, Mai Tai or Tequila Sunrise each pair perfectly with the sun, sea and Shimmy vibe – with the taste of summer in every sip.

A Kiddie’s Menu is also available for the little ones to enjoy between splashing around in the pool or playing in the designated kids jungle gym and play area.

Shimmy Beach Club’s restaurant is open from 11am until 11pm daily.
